Lin McEwan: Music

A Waltz

(Lin McEwan)
Lin McEwan and Mike Pettry
So I've been trying for years to write a song about my parents' obscenely happy relationship and its effect on my sisters and me, and I had never managed it. Then suddenly, it wrote itself. I jotted down the words and melody and brought them to Mike, who created a lush instrutmental background with his usual eerie perception of exactly what I wanted. This is a very rough cut, but I'd love to hear any feedback. ;)
Yours seems to me
What love should be.
A dance of war and peace.
Selfless, no, nor pure,
But something more:
Human and real.
That’s how it’s feel, at least.

Will and compromise.
Joy and sighs.
Hurts and thrills.
Lives of rich and poor.
Less and more.
Kids and careers.
So many years, and still…

CHORUS:
Most think I idealize you,
I know that I realize your flaws,
And they are the cause of my adoration.
You, you make it work every time.
And that’s why I’m…
So in awe.

Few can conceive,
Most won’t believe,
How you’ve grown to be
Each, half of two,
And yet still you.
Success all too rare:
The love that you’ve shared with me.

CHORUS

I may never find a love of my own worth a damn,
But at least I can say what few people have,
Love can last and I know that it can,
‘Cause I’ve seen it.
I’ve seen it.
